Hi Tami, 504 is "teachers/administrators" can TRY to follow requests. IEP, by law, they have to follow. You may need to adjust meds, or have a resource room/timeout area for him to go (I call it a safe zone) and it may be the teacher that is pushing some of his behaviors too. Ask if you can sit-in on a day to 'observe' her teaching methods. She should be used to this, they have to do it at least 1x or more whenever they get recertifications. And you should be able to do this anyway being a parent in the district. They actually cannot refuse you the courtesy of observing the teacher or your child in a classroom situation.

Good luck. Remember, as I am being reminded by my family advocate, parents have the power. It's just that we don't know how much because we aren't aware of the proper terms to put school administration to work.

Me and My husgband are raising our 9 year old grandson. We have had him all of his life. He has ADD. We moved from Indiana a year ago to Central Ky. The school here is not very good at trying to deal with this issue. So I told them next year I will have a 504 plan in place. In Indiana the school he went to was great I didn't have to have a 504 plan. What I would like to know can I make my own 504 plan myself? Or are there speical form that you have to have? Someone please answer!
