Highly recommend Sink or Swim by Milo & Thuy Sindell
I found a book, Sink or Swim by Milo & Thuy Sindell a few weeks ago (my new job started a few months ago). The book is ideal for AD/HD people in that it stresses time management and breaking down projects into managable bites & does a very good job of breaking down learning job skills into managable bites.
The book is designed to help you for the first 3 months in your new job & is divided into 12 chapters or "weeks." Each week you learn a new Goal (get clear on your job objectives), Time (management), Knowledge (obtain info needed for your job), Team (getting along with co-workers), and Image (how you project yourself in the workplace). Each chapter includes five daily schedules for that week (so you can plan your week) & 2-3 tasks to do for each day (i.e., Week 1, Day 2: Dress Appropriately; Meet those who work around me; Make sure my morning routine is working to get me to work on time; Arrange a meeting with my boss to get clear on responsibilities). On being reluctant to introducing yourself to your new co-workers, the authors state my favorite line, "Being an introvert doesn't mean you don't have social skills. It means you get tired from being around people and need to be alone to recharge...Your mission is to make contact. So get going and have fun."
My sympathies to you job searchers. I have had job problems the last few years & because I'm an aging Baby Boomer & had been unemployed for several months I didn't get any responses from ads or agencies. I found my new job by targeting the companies I wanted to work for & sending out my resume with a killer cover letter (I spent hours on that cover letter) and follow-up letters & phone calls. Articles on www.careerbuilder.com helped me tremendously.
