Are these symptoms?

When I try to focus on my work, I get distracted really easily, like if someone asks me a question, I can't focus after that.

I wait until the last possible second to start doing my work. I always figured that it was just procrastination.

I know that I have work to do, but I can't seem to pull myself away from doing whatever is entertaining me at the moment, like surfing the internet, watching tv, or talking on the phone. I just figure that that is just the way teenagers are.

Can anyone help me?

symptoms

Qwerty1001,

Yes, those are all typical symptoms for ADHD. You can have ADHD with the hyperactivity or without, which is sometimes called inattentive ADHD. Some other symptoms are problems with organization, forgetting or losing things frequently, difficulty following directions correctly, careless mistakes, being impulsive (acting before you think). You need to have 6 of 9 symptoms for ADHD inattentive and then there are additional symptoms for the hyperactivity part, which includes being impulsive, not able to sit still or you feel restless, constantly moving. somewhere you should be able to find the listing.

My husband and both my children have ADHD. My husband wasn't diagnosed until he was 45, my daughter was 20 and my son was 10. My son and daughter have the inattentive type. I also work for two brothers who have it and I have a few friends with it. Another place to find good information on ADHD is www.chadd.org

Are you a teenager in high school or middle school? Do you know if anyone else in your family has ADHD? Many times if a child has ADHD so do at least one of the parents. Not always, but it is pretty common. The inattentive types get missed more often because they usually aren't behavioral problems.

It does seem that a great number of individuals with ADHD are very intelligent and creative but that is not always the case. And about half also have a learning disability. Thomas Edison, Ben Franklin and Albert Einstein were all believed to have had ADHD.

Let us know more about you and what questions or concerns you have.

Elaine

a little history

I'm not in middle school or high school. I'm a freshman in college. I kinda always thought that maybe I might have it, but it's something that I don't want to face. My mom and I were talking the other day, and she told me that my older brother had adhd when he was young, and she had him on medication, because he was always causing trouble, but I don't think that either of my parents had/have it.
