summer camps

I have a 16 year old daughter who is ADD. combined type. She is interested in a sleep away camp for fine and performing arts. She wants fun as well as to develop her art skills. I worry about a cabin with lots of kids overstimulating her, also she needs down time and flexibility. A big problem is social awkwardness, sweet but very sensitive and on the young side. Would need help navigating social situations.

Any great camps come to mind preferably north east.

Summer camps

Have you heard of French Woods? It is in Hancock, NY. I have signed my ADHD 11 year old son up for camp there this summer. It will be his first time going, so I can't really recommend it or not. It looks fabulous and has a huge focus on the arts - all kinds of arts - as well as all the traditional and not so traditional stuff - skateboarding, circus, videography, etc. When I spoke with one of the director's and told him my son had ADHD, he said that so many of the kids at the camp have ADHD issues and one of the by-products of this must be increased creativity. Let me know what you think. Where in the Northeast are you? Maybe we are in the same area (how weird would that be?) We live in a suburb about an hour outside of NYC.

Hope this info is of some help. Good Luck. Bonnie
