Omega 3's

Has anyone found a good fish oil supplement that doesn't repeat all day long and is kid friendly? I'm looking for something to give my children to help with their brain focus and I've heard lots of good things about Omega 3's and Omega 6's.

omega3

I bought omega-3 gummy fish from L'il Critter at Costco. Two gummy fish give 120 mg, but I have been giving my 3 young children as many as 6 a day. Not sure if it has helped yet. I know I have read it is best to get either molecularly distilled or pharmecutical grade fish oil. The ones I bought do not state that they are either.

omega 3 pills

I take a Omega 3 supplement every day. The brand I mostly use is called Natrol Omega-3 Fish Oil 1000mg. I buy it at my local Rite-Aid or CVS pharmacy store. Its a two pill a day supplement. I have been taking it for some time now. Its supposed to help alot of things, like joints, heart, health, and even brain functions, and more. It can't hurt to have these supplements in your body. As most people don't eat fish regularly, its a great way to get the benefits from them.

Everything I read suggests 4:1 ratio of EPA to DHA for maximum benefit on ADHA children. Have not found an O3 yet that fills that. I useCoromega Orange flavor sqeeze packets. They have 350 EPA and 230 DHA. They taste like orange sherbert. Easy to mix in a.m. smoothies or eat straight from the packet. GNC has them for $40 for a box of 90 doses. Check out coromega.com also.

Omega 3s - Try Nordic Naturals

I have tried the OmegaBrite products - the liquid taste like bubblegum and I mixed in my son's juice. My son can't swallow pills so this seems to work. I did NOT like the OmegaBrite capsule product as it had bad after taste. I recently discovered Nordic Naturals and like this product like very much. I just discovered they had a EPA Extra product which has a good ratio, plus their Ultimate Omega product has 650 MG of EPA per dose. BTW: For younger children who CAN swallow, Nordic Naturals makes a Omega 3-6-9 product - they are small gell caps that have a lemon taste - they can be chewed or swallowed. My teenager has been taking Omegas now for 2 months and I have seen a difference with ability to focus longer with homework....Good luck!

Fish Oil

My son takes fish oil every day. With the help of his doctor who is doing a study with it we found one. We use Pharmax "high DHS finest pure fish oil with essential oil of orange". It is a liquid. We take a 2 tsp "shooter" that we shoot at the back of his mouth. Then he chases it with orange juice. We have found it better then trying to get him to take 5+ capsules or pills a day of fish oil. It is just one shot in the mouth and once a day. So easily. We have seen a huge improvement with his focus. If you want more information or the other ones that his doctor suggested or sites to get it on please e-mail me.

Omega-3's

We started our 8 1/2 yr old son on fish oil early this year. We started with the OmegaBrite and it is a liquid and it apparently tasted fine as he took it without any problems. We then switched to NordicNaturals since they have a liquid gel capsule and he likes that better because he can do it himself. The liquid was such a small amount that we had to pour it out for him but with the capsules, he can be self-sufficient. Both companies have good records as far as the pediatric formulations and the purity of the products. We went this route as opposed to over the counter formulations because the above products are especially for kids.

What we have noticed is that on the days that he doesn't take his Concerta and just his fish oil, he is more in control of his behavior so, obviously, the fish oil must be doing something for his brain. It's certainly not going to hurt.

vegetarian...

I'm vegetarian, so it's a bit harder in my case. I know there are vegetarian omegas out there, but I haven't gotten around to it. I wonder if it IS worth it, if my deficits are time awareness/inattentiveness-hyperfocus, sleep pattern, and memory. I find that particularly before/during my period my sleep patterns get VERY messed up, as well as when I get sick.

Gotta love this whole business... at least life won't ever be boring for me.
