Repeated wakenings on Clonidine, anyone else?

My 8 yo daughter is on 30mg Focalin XR at 7am. At 7pm, she takes .2mg of Clonidine to get to sleep. We had tried every other route (music, lights, etc.), then Melatonin before Clonidine. The Clonidine works to get her to sleep, but she wakes up every night (6 out of 7 nights maybe), claiming she can't get back to sleep. Sometimes if I stay in her room, she may go back to sleep, but some nights she really can't fall back asleep. Unfortunately, she doesn't stay quiet in her room, and we've tried letting her watch TV downstairs, to backfire that she helps herself to unhealthy foods in the kitchen. By the time 7am rolls around, she is so hyped up, while the rest of the family is dragging from a horrible night's sleep.

Anyone else have such sleep disorders on Clonidine? I really need to keep her on something to get to sleep, but don't know if the Clonidine is just wearing off, she wakes up and can't self soothe herself back to sleep.

Please help,

Sleep deprived for 8 years now.........

clonidine

This happens only occasionally to my son (10) I feel for you!!! Gravol? Benedryl? I've tried both and they do work. But the curious thing is that this weekend, away for Easter, I had none of these alternatives. My sister suggested we give him warm milk and a regular Advil - but tell him it's a sleeping pill, as well as a headache pill.( he also had a headache - from chocolate perhaps?) The placebo effect worked - he was asleep before the pill could possibly have done anything and it was a low dose one anyway. I have wondered before if it just that he gets so anxious about not sleeping that he can't sleep.

Getting to sleep

I think the previous suggestions are great. If not try the Benadryl depending on her weight. it will be 12.5 mg to 50. It will make her sleepy within a few minutes; just make sure she drinks allot of water can it can dry out the sinuses. In very rare cases it can have the opposite effect and stimulate. Sometimes in the morning many people feel groggy. Make sure she isnt getting caffeine or eating chocolalte before bed because this could be keeping her up at night. Warm milk and a oatmeal cookie may be the trick that iss needed. Good luck with her
