Hi, This is my first post. First of all hello! Now into the questions........I will post more later so I do not sound like a total nut case. I was diagnosed with ADD about 11/2 years ago. I have been taking Adderall since 20 - 40mg xr daily. I feel like it is time to come off of it. I have elevated blood pressure, headaches, get grumpy easily in the afternoon. Problem is I like the impact of it. I am afraid to come off of it because I like to feel stimulted, maybe I am a crazy Adderall addict, I certainly never ....ever.... miss a day. Does anyone have info on Adderall detox? How will I feel? What might help? How long will it take? Is it best to taper off? I will see the psychiatrist this Friday but, I would like some background info. I am not sure she has been as careful with my health as I would like. Once before we talked about Straterra. If one really loves Adderall how will the transition be? I am also being treated with zoloft for anxiety/depression. 100mg daily. This has been 6 years. Even with Adderall, Zoloft , caffine, somedays I am immobilized by depression/exhaustion. I am worried that coming off Adderall will make me feel super depressed and useless. Blah. Any thoughts? |

Hi KateA, A lot of your description sounds like me, lol. I also take Adderall XR, and was diagnosed about 1 1/2 years ago. Been on Zoloft for a while too. I had to abruptly stop the Adderall for a week several months ago, thinking it was causing some bad side-effects. (Turned out it was the antibiotic I was taking briefly at that time that caused the problems.) The first day off of it I felt essentially fine, but a bit tired. Then for a few days I felt pretty out of sorts--grumpy, irritable, very tired...it felt pretty unpleasant, like a withdrawal I'd imagine. My dr had advised that it didn't need to be tapered, but I definitely disagree with that opinion. Tapering it gradually would have made it much more tolerable. After a week off of the Adderall, we re-started it and I did fine. About a month ago she had me switch over to Vyvanse, but all I did was just one day stop the Adderall and take the Vyvanse instead--and I didn't feel any uncomfortable effects from that at all. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. |
