BEEN THROUGH LOTS OF MEDS - 7 YRS LATER - NOW WHAT?

We started out on Zoloft, went to Concerta. Concerta worked for a long time, and worked well. When it stopped, we tried Adderal. That only lasted one 2 days- my daughter had a psychotic episode on it, and is now charted as being allergic to it. Strattera is a joke - Once she turned 18 and was out of public school, I wanted to put her on straight Ritalin, so that she could have more control over her own body. Her dr. wouldn't work with us, and so we found a new one, who is really fantastic. She is now on Ritalin LA, which works, but something is lacking. She is a college student, and really struggling. The tasks she handled in high school, are very hard to her now, and her confidence level is at an all time low. Anyone have a suggestion?

Problems in college

Does she have a learning disability? Almost half of those with ADHD have a learning disability as well. Can you pinpoint in what areas she has difficulty? Reading comprehension, auditory processing, writing, etc. Or she may need a stronger dose of medicaion.

When you said she became psychotic on Adderall, was bipolar disorder ruled out? Has she learned any organizational skills that would help her? Does she possibly need a 504 plan at college? Has she had one before while in high school? If a stronger dose of medication doesn't help, there may be another comorbidity or learning disorder. Try to narrow down the precise problems she is having. Is she still experiencing a lot of ADHD symptoms or just in certain areas?
