From ADHD to Insanity

1. How many sleepless nights can an ADDer survive before becoming insane?

Please share you answers . . . if you're not presently straight-jacketed.

2. Do your hperfocused thoughts turn into foggy daydreams only to become nightmares that can't wake you out of your anxious insomnia?

Please describe them . . . if you can control your fingers enough to type.

ADHD to Insanity

I'm not sure about that. It can't be very many. If I develop insomnia (I do regularly) I have to take a sleeping pill. I take lunesta for sleep. Now if I don't sleep I get all scatterbrained and don't remember s*. The hyperactivity that I have becomes much worst and that makes it even harder to sleep. It becomes a vicious cycle. Anyway I am rambling now. I don't know the answer to your question.

Sleep problems

There could be several possibilities. for one thing, you may need to cut back on caffeine if that is a problem for you. If the issue is anxiety, you may need an anxiety medication. Some individuals use melatonin to help them fall asleep and you can try that. Then there are various sleep medications.

My husband and I both use Trazodone to help us fall asleep and stay asleep. He has ADHD but I don't. Trazodone is an older antidepressant that is rarely used for depression because it made people too sleepy. but many doctors prescribe it for sleep problems. I also like the fact that it is something that can be taken for long term, whereas some of the sleep medications are only for short term or occassional use. It requires a prescription but you can get it at Walmart for $4. If the melatonin or caffeine reduction doesn't do the trick then discuss it with your doctor. If it is an ongoing problem, the doctor may want to do a sleep study to make sure you don't have sleep apnea. i had to do the sleep study and it wasn't sleep apnea in my case.
