new guy here!

HELLO ALL!

I was just diagnosed last week. I was previously misdiagnosed twice as being hypomanic/bipolar. I sought more information online, and bought several book by Dr.Hallowell on the subject, and became ever more convinced that I am ADHD, not hypomanic/bipolar.

After my first appointment last week with a new psychologist, she asked me about meds. I told her, I need them LOL. So she recommended my Primary Care Physician can prescribe me, soo .... a week later, I've gotten my prescription filled, and have already started my dose.

One 40mg capsule every day. Then I see my two doctors for re-evaluation. So far, I haven't felt very much. I am age 32, and have never been on meds for anything before. Am looking forward to come truly enlightening moments these next coming weeks. :)

I am on Strattera. How long before I 'feel something'?

My first day dose, I sweat I felt 'different', but I know that's not possible, unless I'm sensitive?!

ADD F/X

OF: I'm up to 100 mg/day Strattera and 20mg Lexapro right now. It took a week of 25 mg, a week of 50 and a week of 75 for F/X to start. The Lexapro also took a few weeks for F/X to show. Together, they kicked anxiety and dep's butt. As for the primary ADHD symptoms, te jury's still out. It's hard to separate the F/X of the behavioral and other alternative stuff I'm doing, plus the positive life results of all that, from the F/X of Strattera. I may be giving Wellbutrin a try (while easing Lexapro out) to see what that does. Peace to you and keep us posted.

Strattera can be used for ADD/ADHD as you know. Some do well with it and some don't. Wellbutrin is a good drug too. The most effective drugs seem to be the stimulants. Although it is a hit and miss treatment. If you have ever had a drug problem they usually won't put you on a stimulant although that depends on what you may have been addicted to. I am not saying that you have ever had a drug or alcohol problem, I just want to help give you some useful information in case you question why, when the doc does something different. If you don't know why always ask. You need to be involved in your treatment plan.

Strattera

Many docs, especially GP's, try to use Strattera as first line treatment since it's not a stimulant. I tried it, didn't work. My son's doc wanted to try it, didn't work. We all moved on from there.

I have a friend who was on Lexapro and went on Strattera and she was almost immediately a different person! She thrived on it! I couldn't believe the improvement, especially after all it did for me was make me "irregular" (to be delicate).

That brought home the reality that what works for us may not work for others, or if it does, maybe not the same way.

New too

I am about a month in and just on 10mg Adderall plus Celexa. What are the symptoms of hyp/bipolar?

I have trouble sleeping and the Adderall makes food taste weird. I felt different almost immediately, of course. Almost like a good coffee.

I'm sorry to have to ask, but what does F/X mean? I think I can follow the drift of the context, but I might be wrong since I don't know for certain. Remember, ignorant simply means you don't know the facts.

Test: F/X

Post reply hasn't been working for days on this thread. Seems like it might now.

F/X is just short for "effects" as in the very entertaining movie F/X starring Brian Brown (of "The Thorn Birds" and husband of co-star Rachel Ward).

RECEPTION: While F/X performed well at the box office, grossing over $20 million in North America (well over its $10 million budget), executives at Orion Pictures, which financed and distributed the film, felt that it could have performed even better with a different title. One executive claimed that no one understood what the title meant and accepted it because it was what the producers wanted. Wiener admitted that they thought that the two letters together would be "provocative" like MASH and admitted that they had made a mistake.

Dodi Al-Fayed was the other producer. Yes, Princess Diana's Dodi. That's what he did besides wooing (or befriending) Princess Diana and spending a wee bit of his family fortune.
