Dosage problems....Max Concerta Not Enough

To all you adult ADD'rs out there. Anyone have issues with the maximum dosage of any of the stimulant drugs, not being enough? I'm taking 2 36mg Concerta every day. It helps, but not enough. Before you all condem me for taking an extra dose...i'm an add'er. One day I forgot I took my morning dose, and took an extra. For that day that I took the 108mg, I felt like I think I should feel. I felt like a human being again after 20 years of this.

So, the week before I went to see my doctor, I took 108mg. Best week of my life since high school, i'm 38. Of course the doctor freaked and slapped a bp cuff on me. My BP was LOWER on 108 than 72. I felt calm and at peace that week, I did great at work AND I didn't have to drink a bunch of caffiene. She was amazed to say the least that I had no side efffects or high bp. I just felt like a member of the human race again.

Bad news, 108mg is not approved, she can't perscribe it, no on prescribes it. So i'm back down to 72mg and diet Mt. Dew to make up the difference. Had to start BP meds again because the Caffiene increases that. So what do I do? Concerta @ 108 is my "Magic" dose. 72 + caffieiene is bad, I don't like how caffiene affects me, but i'm stuck. Anyone out there have any ideas, do any of the other stimulants "hit harder"? Should I try a different one?

I think my resistance to Concerta comes honest. My mom drinks 2 POTS, yes POTS of coffee every day along with her cigs. Either it's genetic or she did that when she was pregnant with me and I have some built in resistance from the womb.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

See Hallowell's Delivered from Distraction pp. 248-251

You might consider Adderall XR.

As for Concerta XR, Hallowell says "Blood levels are maintained for eight to twelve hours, depending upon individual variability. (There is not much consistency among individuals in the world of psychopharmacology)." Thus, you could have your doctor search the medical literature on concerta XR to see what the highest tested dosage was and what the accompanying side-effects and risks were for that dosage.

dosage problems

I agree with addaway. It may be time to try a new med or to add something like wellbutrin if you aren't on that. I know everyone is different but I would be willing to try something different. Maybe it's time to try one of the new meds that's out. Have a good talk with your doctor. Hopefully the doc will listen.

Dosage Problems

My son, who is 16, was taking 72 mg. of Concerta and it recently wasn't working as well. We went to the doctor and he switched him to Vyvanse. The doctor told us that in his experience he found that Vyvanse and Adderall seemed to work better for some teens and adults, even though the Concerta worked fine when they are younger. So you may need to switch medications.

He's doing fine on the Vyvanse. He is currently on 70 mg. of the Vyvanse but I know that you can at least go up to 140 mg. of Vyvanse. Not sure if that is the maximum dosage.
