Question about Focalin XR

My son was diagnosed with dyslexia about a year and a half ago. He was just recently diagnosed with ADHD(inattentive type) as well as an auditory processing disorder. His doctor prescribed Focalin XR for him. The doctor said to take it with a meal. The info that I read that came with the meds said that it can be taken with or without a meal, but if it is taken with a meal it might delay the absorption of the meds. We need the meds to work quickly, but we don't want him to get an upset stomach either. I was just wondering if anyone on this site has experience with this med. If so, can you share your experience? Was it better with or without a meal? How did it work for you or your child? Thanks!

FOCALIN

My daughter who is 7 takes it with juice in the morning. We open the capsule and mix it and seems to work just fine. She could not swallow the capsule.

Focalin XR & Breakfast

We have tried giving it to our 7 yr old son without a meal, but he complains of a stomach ache &/or headaches by mid-morning. I give him a high protein organic breakfast (usually eggs & bacon or ham) along with a small portion of fresh fruit and a small glass of milk to coat the capsule. The protein helps break the medicine down quicker once it's digested. I've noticed that the couple of times he has had oatmeal with fruit, the medicine takes longer to get into his system and his teacher informs me that "his medication isn't working".
