Adderall ::: After it wears off
Hello all, I'd like to compare notes with other ADD-wired grown-ups on dosage of Adderall and what it's like at the end of the day. I take 10mg regular in the morning and 10mg XR in the afternoon. If I stay up too late, then it's an all nighter. But if I time it right, I can fall asleep with little trouble. The Adderall is an amazing drug. Clears my mind. Calming. Focused. But at night? Woof... it can be tough. Sometimes I need a coffee when I feel it ramping off. Exercise is good, if I can remember to schedule it in. Overall, tho. I'm mentally wiped and need to cave at night. You? |

Just got off adderall
I started out with Ritalin at age 15 and then switched to Adderall at 20. The Ritalin just stopped working. The Adderall really worked but I felt like it had too many cons. It gave me horrible headaches and sped up my heart rate so much that I decided it was time to move to something else. I also stressed out a lot more on Adderall and would sort of panic if I knew it was about to wear off. So now I take Dexedrine and I love it. It works just the same but it's "smoother" and I feel healthier on it...whereas Adderall made me feel like i was on the brink of a heart attack. But, I've also noticed with Dexedrine that in terms of not sleeping, it's even worse. I absolutely cannot take it after 1pm or I won't sleep at all. i take three 15mg of the slow release in the morning and it lasts all day until I go to bed. :) |

Adderall
My doctor took me off adderal 30 mgs Xl after she read the literature on it she felt it had to many cardiac risk and instead put me on Ritalin. I was in my early 40's when I was diagnosed. I haven't take meds except medication to sleep now for approximately 2 years. now . The reason is I have no longer have a psychiatrist who is close enough and understands ADD . My psychaitrist office is welll over an hour away and the psychologist took care of her mail when I was there etc. so as I got older, I figured I went 40 years without a diagnosis what diffence will it make. Adderall also gave me headaches when it wore off and with Ritalin I was getting severe carbohydrate cravings after the medicine wore off. Many time I think though I would do better on meds.Strattra never did a thing at all for me. I never took Dexedrine and truthfully sounds like a GNC product use in diet prepartions. I honestly feel that if I can get by without meds i will try until I just can't do it longer. Sleeping without or with meds is always been isssue ever since childhood. If I don't take something I will be awake all night with an over active mind. So I taake Ambien so I don't have a hangover effect. |

Similar to LCC
LCC, my story is somewhat similar to yours. After my Dx, my doc wanted to try Stattera first. It simply gave me "malaise" (a vague or unfocused feeling of mental uneasiness, lethargy, or discomfort). I went onto Concerta but had a problem with headaches. About a year ago I started Adderall XR and it has proved to be nearly perfect! My dose was either 2 or 3 (20 mg XR) capsules in the morning [depending on the time of year or time of the month] with a 10 mg (regular) in the midafternoon. I took this "afternoon booster" as I work long hours and the XR didn't quite last long enough. I didn't crash like I did on Concerta, but my brain seemed to just turn off gradually. I would be going through paperwork and I couldn't think of a common word. I typically feel comfortable asking people "what is the word that means...?" But in the afternoon, the words would be very simple. Like: "what is the word for that thing you clean up dust, has a long handle...?" Duh... a broom! I recently switched to non-XR Adderall completely as my insurance no longer covers XR (it does but the co-pay is more than I can handle). I was afraid... but it has been a couple of months and I've found my routine. I take 40 mg in the morning, 20 mg at lunch-ish and 10 mg in the afternoon. If I take the afternoon dose too late (evening), I have a hard time shutting off no matter how tired I am... my brain keeps going. |

Love Adderall with Lexapro, but...
I have had problems with sleep deprivation as long as I can remember. It takes me a long time to get to sleep and I wake up 3-5 times a night. I was diagnosed with A.D.H.D. at age 35. My neurologist who is treating my A.D.H.D. prescribed me 10mg. 2x a day of Adderall back in July of '07. I liked it and it worked for me. At the beginning of March, she increased it to 20 mg in the morning and 10 mg. in the evening and also put me on 20 mg of Lexapro (anti-depressant) 1x in the morning. I'm a shift worker. 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Over the past week and a half, I will get home from work feeling a bit tired, take a melatonin to help the sleepiness along and as soon as I hit the pillow, I wake up and stay awake until about 7:00 a.m. I'm frustrated that I can't get to sleep which makes it harder to get to sleep. Ear plugs don't help, reading doesn't help, chamomille tea doesn't either. I'm exhausted all the time and barely functional at home. I need to save my functionality for when I get to work. Why all of the sudden after being on Adderall and Lexapro for weeks, am I not able to sleep now. I don't know what to do. Adderall has worked the best out of Ritalin, Welbutrin and Straterra. And in combination of Lexapro, my stress level has gone waaaaay down and my head is more clear. I only need to wake up with an alarm clock on Sunday mornings for church. The rest of the week, I'm free to sleep as late as I need to. Does anyone have any suggestions that I haven't tried yet? I'm desperate to get a full 8 hours of undisturbed rest. |
