Will my 8th grade son really need Resource Room next year? He's been improving, wants programming My 8th grade son has been improving - he has been remembering to hand things in, write things, down, and so on. Not perfectly, of course. He has had an aide for 4 years but his new aide doesn't seem to do much. His Resource Room teacher wants him to continue with RR next year in high school. but others have told me this isn't necessary. Besides, with all the requirements of the high school, he won't have time for French or comuter programming if he takes RR. Any ideas? Quote

My 8th grade son has been improving - he has been remembering to hand things in, write things, down, and so on. Not perfectly, of course. He has had an aide for 4 years but his new aide doesn't seem to do much. His Resource Room teacher wants him to continue with RR next year in high school. but others have told me this isn't necessary. Besides, with all the requirements of the high school, he won't have time for French or comuter programming if he takes RR. Any ideas?

His IEP was an integral part of that process. He has been benefiting from the services of his RR teachers since the sixth grade. These services have proven extremely valuable to him. His IEP states that he may go to the RR for test-taking, re-teaching, or when he becomes over-whelmed or the classroom is just too noisy for him to concentrate. He is now 16 yrs. old, and still uses the RR when he feels that he needs to. That isn't too often, as he attends a vocational-technical school in the A.M., and is only at the high school for four pds. in the afternoon. I would strongly suggest that your son's IEP allows for services to be available to him should he need them. Best wishes for a successful second half of the year! NANCY M. Quote
