ADHD or "Normal" 8 year old?

My son recently began to have an issue wearing jeans. He has worn them since he was a baby and suddenly, he only wants to wear sweatpants. This struggle has caused some very upsetting mornings with wanting him to wear something more appropriate to school. Now he is starting a new battle with shoes that are too tight/too loose - the same pair is different every day. I don't know what to think/do about these issues and was wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences or can offer any advice?

ADHD or normal 8 year old

He could just be going through a phase. My son would wear nothing but jeans for a while and then at another point in time, he only wanted to wear shorts (we live in Florida). And of course, if you find a good sale on the brand of clothes he likes, he no longer likes that brand.

Another thing is that some children have sensory integration issues as well as ADHD. My daughter has this to a mild degree. When she was younger, she refused to wear socks that had a seam in the toes and the tags on clothing bothered her. Some are just very sensitive to the feel of certain clothing against their skin.

ADHD or normal 8 year old

HI...I feel your pain! My 9 year old son has always been EXTREMELY difficult to dress. We have even gone as far as ordering "seamless socks" online that cost about $8 a pair. He has never been able (until recently) jeans, and only shirts that were SUPER soft. We've also had a HORRIBLE time with shoes. I've read a lot about his difficulty and have come to the conclusion that he has Sensory Integration issues. I don't even think he wore underwear for about a year until I tried the Hanes Comfort Wateband Boxer Briefs...maybe two months ago. Most of our family just thought he was throwing temper tantrums and trying to get attention, but that's not it at all. He has a real issue. Hang in there. He is almost 9 now and seems to be coming out of it a little. I did a lot of massage to his extremities (including scalp) to try and de-sensitize him over the last few years. I don't know if that's what helped or not, but I know it didn't hurt.

Is the jeans/sweatpants problem...

..the only reason why you suspect its ADHD? I don't think that by itself wou;d be enough. And, I'd need a guy to weigh in here, but maybe there's a normal "boy" reason why he wants to wear sweatpants. Or, maybe sweatpants are what all the cool kids are wearing ?!
