Trying to Find the Right Medication

I am a 48 year old mom and I was diagnosed with ADD about 4 years ago - although I had already diagnosed myself many years ago and have done much research on the subject. I have tried a few ADD meds: Adderall, Focalin, Strattera and Wellbutrin, but the Adderall (which worked great for my ADD) and the Focalin made my mouth extremely dry - to the point that I had to stop taking it. The Strattera made me feel very nauseated and the Wellbutrin made me quite irritable. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced the dry mouth with the ADD meds and if they were successful using another type of medication? I took a short break from my search for an ADD medication after the first few didn't work out. I felt like I was hyperfocusing on researching medications and everything else was getting neglected. But I'm at the point that I want to try again. I appreciate any help and information anyone can provide.

Getting the Meds "Right"

See my post on the "Tweaking ADD ADHD Treatment" public forum. Hope I get some good replies. Strattera gives me dry mouth but it is tolerable. No nausea at 75 mg. Were you gradually upped to that level?

About finding the right med....

Yes, Adderall requires a lot of hydration. Interesting that the dry mouth was TOO MUCH. Must have been awful.

Strattera? Couldn't stand it. Made me nearly narcoleptic at times. Mind felt in a straitjacket.

Wellbutrin was okay, but I was way too manic. And grouchy. Bad combo. But I did quit smoking.

Terrible, terrible time with Effexor but that's a thread for another time.

So: Adderall's been best. Not ready to try something else, but I love reading about other ADDers experiences.

Right med and Adderall

I have tried Effexor with no effect, Strattera which felt like a sedative for me, and Wellbutrin which I am currently trialing and it just makes me more hungry and unfocused, so I am going back to Adderall. It does have a diuretic effect so it is important to drink often while taking it. I am 52, and really feel leery about taking stimulants regularly, but the alternative meds. just don't seem to do anything for focus and ability to organize and stay on task. Wish it was different....
