Just started on adderall

I just started on Adderall and am nervous about it. So far I like how I feel but have read some not so good stuff about it. If there is anyone out there on Adderall please tell me how it is going, or those that have been on adderall why did you stop? Thanks

Just started on adderall

Although I can't tell you personally about Adderall, my husband has been on it for three years now and he says it really helps him stay focused. He hasn't complained about any problems with it.

Write it down

My son has been on Adderall for six weeks now. we switched him from concerta. Boy did we make a mistake. My sn started having aggressive behavior and attitdue problems. Now it may not happen to you but after what we just went through take our doctors advice and write all symtems down. It easier for your doctor to understand your systems if you have them writed down when they happened.

just started on adderall

Hi everyone,

My son took Adderall for a few weeks and my son did well during the day and was focusing well but when that medicine started wearing off he would get frustrated and irritable. He would start to fight with everyone and would say he could not help the way he was feeling. His doctor changed him to Ritalin and those mood swings changed. My nephew is now on Adderall and my sister said he is out of control in the late afternoons and I told her that it was probably because of the Adderall.

Has anyone had this problem when the Adderall starts wearing off?

Works for me

Everybody metabolizes medication differently and at different rates. The only way to know if Adderall will work for you is to experiment with different doses and stick with it long enough to figure out if it works for you or not. Be aware that sometimes people think a particular drug isn't working for them when they're just experiencing the effects of too high or too low a dose. Stay in touch with your doc and good luck.

Adderall (well, the generic version)

My experience with Adderall has been very positive. The constant rumination and 'chatter' in my mind is gone. I'm much more relaxed, mentally and physically. When I clean I don't try to do 10 different things which only created more chaos. While my house isn't spotless it is much more tidy than before and a huge improvement. I've also been able to purge so much junk from my house too. For some reason the meds really help with that. Even my husband has noticed profound differences in my behavior--I'm more patient and tolerant with him and other people, I handle stress much better than before, and I am much more productive.

Appetite suppression was a problem for about 3 months. I would have to force myself to eat and I couldn't eat anything too sweet, greasy, or processed (I'd like to know if others have expereinced this aversion to junk food); this went away after a while.

At one point I tried Methylin (Ritalin) because Walmart has it under their $4 plan, but it absolutely didn't work for me. I was irritable, argumentative, agitated, and had a headache for about 2 hours after I took it. I went back to Adderall after 2 weeks of that.

Adderall and aversion to sweets

Katzmeow,

I've only been taking Adderall XR 15mg for three days now, but I can tell you that it has definitely changed my cravings for sweets. My entire life has been run by my uncontrollable craving for sugar. Until last week I was drinking up to 100 ounces of Pibb Xtra or Dr. Pepper PER DAY. That's only because I ran out of time. If I woke in the middle of the night I would go straight to the fridge for a drink of soda. I used to joke that it was an addiction, but it wasn't a joke. There were times when I would overdraw my checking account just because I needed to buy more soda. I couldn't make it through the day without that sweet syrupy taste in my mouth. After taking my first 15mg dose of Adderall, it was like that craving suddenly went away. I've had no more than a 20 ounce DIET soda each day and I'm fine with that. The diet soda is just a way to wein me off soda without suffering caffeine withdrawl. I honestly believe I could go on without any soda at this point. My husband accidentally brought me a regular soda this morning and it's way too sticky and syrupy.

It sort of makes sense now that I've thought it through. Without meds my body was craving the stimulant in soda (as well as other sugary foods). Now that my body is getting the meds it needs the craving is gone.

Adderall works well for me

I was diagnosed with ADHD a few months ago. I have always had depression. I think maybe my depression is due to ADHD.

I tried Concenta (sp?) and Straterra, but they both gave me horrible headaches and stomach pain.

My doc was reluctant to try Adderall - - but we agreed to try it. It made a definite difference on how I work and how I view myself.

My advice would be to continue and see how you do.

Sometimes, I just don't feel like eating, but then I felt that way before. LOL
