there are medication options for those with tics
@PhoenixMom, Many physicians will not prescribe a stimulant to a patient with a history of tics themselves or a family history, since stimulants are known to often make them worse. However, there are many non-stimulant medication options to treat ADHD as well. Here's a list of articles on non-stimulant medications: http://www.additudemag.com/search/keyword/Nonstimulant%20ADHD%20Medications.html There's also a great chart detailing all meds for ADHD and co-morbid conditions in the article, Psychiatric Medications for Children with ADHD (http://www.additudemag.com/adhd/article/2489.html). As with any child starting any medication for ADHD, all you can do is try something and then adjust if it is not managing symptoms ideally. You might try posting this in the medication section of the Forums to receive experience responses from other parents who use medication to treat ADHD in a child with Tourettes/Tics as well.
