School Progress Reports

Hi - I would like to get a monthly report from my son's teachers and thought it may be easier for the teachers to fill out a form once a month with any problems, concerns, struggles and of course triumphs with regard to school, social skills and attitudes. Would anyone be able to refer me to a website or tell me if they have done this before? Thanks, Anne

RE: School Progress Reports

MYADHD.com offers these kinds of tools but there is a registration fee. ADDitude has a lot of information about working with schools and teachers - sample letters, etc. - but I didn't see any actual forms.

You might want to talk to your child's teachers. They may already have something in place.

Good luck, Lyn www.mindfullivingcoach.com

RE: School Progress Reports

If your child has a 504 plan, you can make that part of his plan. In middle school I got weekly reports (most of the time) from most of his teachers on his grades and missing assignments. I didn't ask for anything on behavior because my son has inattentive ADHD and did not generally have significant behavior problems. The school might even have their own form. You can check with them. e-mail works

You may want to see if the teachers have on-line access at school. My son's do, and I can email with any questions, or could do (but have not yet done--thanks for the great idea!) a form. I was surprised at how willing they were to answer email, and they way their system was set up, they could attach his grades from the beginning of the quarter...including a ton of incompletes that we would not otherwise have caught. They didn't want to have to remember to do a form, and when I had sent one to school with my son, he would 'forget' to give it to them, so I just periodically fire off and email, and w/in 24 hours, had everything I needed to know. Beautiful! (Though the grades themselves weren't always!) I'd just ask what would work best for them...you can't be the first involved parent they have dealt with!

wanting monthly reports

I'm a sped teacher. At our school, we have student planners that go home and come back to school each day. We use those to write notes back and forth to parents. We also have a behavior chart that we send home weekly that notes whether a child has broken any classroom rules and what they were. Parents sign it and send it back. It's all tied to a reward system at the end of our grading period. Weekly is nice because it gives everyone a good idea of how the week went quickly enough for parents and teachers to address any problems that might be arising. I also like the email idea submitted by another contributor. Personally, I find it is very convenient to respond to email. Email may be the best way to go if you don't want your child to see the teachers' notes. Another advantage to email is that you can send an email asking how your child is doing----a nice way to remind someone it is time for an update. One more thing....the farther out you go, the less likely that the teacher is going to be able to give a "true" picture of any details that you might be interested in. A month might be too long to go if you don't have any intermediate feedback. You can email me at noeltexas@comcast.net if you want me to send the list of rules we cover.
