Concerta/Lexapro

Does anyone have a child that is onthis combination? My 13 yr old is on 90mg of Concerta and 10mb of Lexapro. he has been on this for about 3 years and I am now having some issues with mood swings. I am wondering if it is the meds or a combination of being a boy, 13 years old, puberty, ADD and dyslexia.

Lots of mood swings

I do have the experience of a 13 yr old boy, step-son. Lots of mood swings is normal. One moment happy, fun, on top of the world, 15 minutes later can be very frustrated or angry about seemingly nothing.

However if you haven't changed medications in 3 yrs, you and Dr. may need to evaluate the effectiveness. Also is your son really taking the Rx? I hear it's common for teenagers to think they don't need the medicine, but don't tell Mom. Talk with your son at a calm and quiet time. Good luck

On that same combo of meds

I am personally on that same combo of meds. I was on 36mg of Concerta and 25 mg Paxil CR. I just recently went thru a med change in the past 3 months. First was the paxilCR to the Lexapro because it just was not working well anymore. Concerta we just decreased it to 18mg again because I was experiencing some intense AGGRIVATION. I stopped taking it and it was gone then I of course had ADD issues. That was when we dropped the dose. My Dr had to remind me it is a stimulant still and that is a side effect of ADD meds. I am doing much better, feeling better too. GOOD LUCK--I hope I helped you some.

My boy has the same symptoms

My 10 yrs boy has the same symptoms of what your boy has. He's on Ritalin since 4 years. Once he's given the med, he gets nervous, screaming and sometimes might break anything in his hand. I think the med has bad side effects, because before giving him the med he feels much better. I'm now trying giving him natural supplements such as fish oil.
