Dore or Balametrics?

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has tried Dore or balametrics with their children. I have am 11 year old who is poorly coordinated, socially immature and dxed ADHD. Anyone have any luck with either of these approaches?

Dore not for us

Hi

We signed up with Dore in australia at a cost of $3800 as the literature etc seemed really professional. I was unimpressed but believe that the program does get results. We had to pay the money up front and realised that it was not for us after a few months.

From what I gather from other adhdnews.com forums that there are other people who are unhappy and after reading the rather lengthy threads, found a number of interesting alternatives. Everything though is worth investigating - just because we found it unsuitable doesn't mean it won't work for your son - good luck!!!!

Right/left brain exercises

all these methods are based on right/left brain exercises right?

here's what I've gleaned from reading and practice.

i use a balance board...and it helps.

i got a simple one from amazon...i think i will be purchasing a Chango Balance Board available from Amazon. it's obviously more difficult. the other wasn't a challenge after a few goes. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0008E48U6/ref=wl_it_dp/102-1245115-6130552?ie=UTF8&coliid=I38TC2L3DDKU7H&colid=DWUOSIYJMK8A

Also Hallowell "delivered from distraction" suggests ----right after talking about Dore and Rutherfords methods.

"Brain Gym" by Paul E. Dennison, Gail E. Dennison there is also a smaller book just for kids...click on the link that is there name for more of their books

Brain Gym info from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0942143027/ref=wl_it_dp/102-1245115-6130552?ie=UTF8&coliid=I26EW10CFEFVPA&colid=DWUOSIYJMK8A

I haven't tried this book yet...but bought it today from Amazon. Healing ADD- Simple Exercises Thom Hartmann http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1887424377/ref=ord_cart_shr/102-1245115-6130552?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance

It got outstanding reviews and is very inexpensive.

I tend to research things like a maniac...i hope all this info i stored in my data bank helps... ;-) from my personal experience exercises help especially right/left brain ones.

you might also do a search on Visual Spacial Learners.

all this info i got in one form or another from Delivered from Distraction...

balance board?

What exactly does a balance board do for ADHD children? This sounds like a great idea for my daughter, but I'm not sure how it is supposed to help her symptoms.

Exercises and ADHD

Hi! John Ratey who co-wrote Driven to Distraction just came out with a new book titled "Spark" : Exercise and the Brain. This can answer some of the answers about how balancing and exercise can help people with ADHD. From what I know about Dore (which isn't a lot) they use different balancing exercises and precision exercises to strengthen the part of the brain that has to do with focusing. Ratey's book goes into some detail about what type exercises to do in order to grow the neurons. I am curious about a study they are doing with labrynths. Has anybody tried that yet? I actually bought a labyrinth wobble/balance board where you roll the ball around in the labyrinth while standing on it. It's really hard! Haven't tried it as a solution to ADHD yet though.
