6th Grade son and homework
I have a 6th grade son, his problem was similar so instead of fighting about it he just started lying about even having homework! It is in his IEP that the teacher signs his agenda book everday telling me if he has homework, what it is and when it's due. I made all of his teachers aware this would be presented daily. However, if he forgets this one teacher does not ask for it!!!
Even if we do the homework and send it back he forgets to turn it in , and the teacher doesn't ask!! Then he ends up with a 0 (zero) and they are punishing him for work he has actually done! I have sent hundreds of emails with the teacher. Then had meetings with the teacher, special ed teacher and vice-principal. this one teacher should not be teaching special ed kids at all.
We also noticed everything is more important than his school work so he would rush or blow things. We have the rule that if he remembers to get the agenda book signed and the homework done then he earns time on the tv, computer or friends. It may seem harsh but it has motivated him somewhat.
He takes an afternoon medication booster. On the longer (or harder) assignments and he doesn't have someone sitting with him he tends to gets off task. Somedays all goes well and other days he gets so upset. I try to give him little breaks but on those days we usually end up in tears with him saying "I don't deserve whatever (tv, friends, playing). I can tell on those days that he is trying and just gets stuck.
He is a smart, outgoing and funny kid. I hate it that things can be so tough.
I am praying that we have a better year and a teacher that cares and understands!!!!
