Adderall IR Patient Assistance
So, I have been looking and looking for god knows how long and I cant find a site for just plain Adderall Pateint Assistance. So.....I need help. Does anyone have any help or suggestions? Do they not offer it for IR? Only XR is ever listed and I tried XR. I did not like it for reasons that with IR I feel like I have more control over the release of mediacation in my system. Soooooo.........Please....someone, just help me in my pointless quest of finding a program that does not exist? Thanks bunches everyone

RE: Adderall IR Patient Assistance
Try looking up the company of the drug manufacturer and they may be able to help you. That is what I would do. Sorry if it isn't helpful.

Adderall IR patient assistance
Have you talked to your pharmacist? I find mine is easier to access and very helpful, more than my GP. Meanwhile, I had never heard of Adderall IR, although I once took Adderall XR. I'll have to ask my pharmacist or my psych what it is. good luck. |

RE: Adderall IR Patient Assistance
Adderall IR is simply the Instant Release form of the medication, as opposed to the eXtended Release form, XR. Adderall IR is pill (tablet) with a half-life of 3 hours and it starts at 5mgs and is made up to 30mgs. Adderall XR however, is in a capsule form and with an average half-life of about 10 hours. Both the IR and XR types of the medication have their own advantages and disadvantages. One type may work better for a person and not as well on another; everyone is different. XR lasts longer and has no hard "crash" once it wears off. IR is released much quicker and therefore much more potent. As an effect , a hard "crash" is felt when it wears off and the symptoms of ADD are magnified, therefore the user feels a much greater need to take another dose. The higher the dosage is, the harder the crash and withdrawal. Because of this, Adderall IR has an extremely high potential for abuse which makes it that much more controlled. However, when IR is used correctly at the right dosage and time, it can be very beneficial. I recently switched over to Strattera -- decided to give non-stimulants a try, and if it works as well as its promised, it may be a much better, and healthier opition than any stimulant. |

Adderall
I haven't had any problem getting the instant release form of Adderall. My pdoc writes the Rx for Adderall; the pharmacy fills it as a generic instant release (amphetamine salt combo). Adderall XR is still under patent and so there's no generic. The IR is much cheaper. I've been taking the generic IR for about 8 months. Except for the initial appetite suppression, I've had no side effects with it. I don't experience a hard crash either. I also don't feel any need to take greater dose to get the same effect (ie, tolerance to the medication). I started on 10 mg twice a day and had it increased to 15 mg twice a day; I've been on that dose for months. In fact, my monthly supply lasts over a month because I don't take it every day or don't take it twice a day. Sometimes I have taken 30mg, but I don't develop a need to keep taking the higher dose; I just go back to 15mg. I don't think it necessarily has a higher potential for abuse. Some research suggests drug abuse is less prevalent for people who take stims for ADHD (as opposed to those with untreated ADHD); drug abuse can occur because a person is trying to self-medicate to alleviate symptoms of ADHD (or other issues like anxiety and depression). To find info on Adderall IR try searching 'adderall and generic' or 'amphetamine and ADHD' or 'adderal ir'. I don't think there's an offical patient assistance site for it because it's not under patent and available from many different companies as a generic. But info on it can be gleaned from various sources.
