MotivAider Helps ADHD Students Stay Focused...And You Can Win One!

Can this gadget help students with attention deficit improve their focus and ability to stay on task in the classroom and at home?

Over the summer my 9-year-old daughter, Natalie, and I tested a behavior change gadget for ADDitude magazine. When the editors sent the product, a MotivAider, for us to road test I thought it might take some explanation and a little cajoling to get Natalie to try it. But as usual, she was one step ahead of me. “I know what that is!” she said, as...

Does Your ADHD Child Have Tact?

Our children with attention deficit may have issues with impulsive speech and social skills, but sometimes they're really just saying what everyone else is thinking -- aren't they?

Mother and ADHD child on bicycle ride
I suspect that many loyal readers of ADDitude and my blog have grown familiar with -- and hopefully fond of -- hearing about the hyperactive high jinks of my daughter, Natalie, and her friend Harry, both of whom have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADD/ADHD). All My ADHD Daughter Wanted Was a "Normal" Friend

Do our children's special needs -- attention deficit, learning disabilities, and/or comorbidities -- prevent them from making and keeping "neurotypical," same-age friends?

She took up residence the day I blew up...

How Do You Measure Whether a Child's ADHD Has Improved?

My ADHD daughter, Natalie, has made progress in the last couple of years, but she still has a long way to go.

I didn’t realize how worried I was until the wait was over. We got the news: Our family will continue to receive help dealing with my daughter Natalie’s attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADD/ADHD) and other mental health issues through Iowa's Children’s Mental Health Waiver. Phew! Through this waiver our family receives respite services -- blocks of time where a trusted someone cares for Natalie so...

Shut Up About Your Perfect Kid...Book Giveaway!

Our kids are different -- and that's okay. Here's a must-read book that celebrates their uniqueness.

Ditto what ADDitude magazine editor Wayne Kalyn said about Shut Up About Your Perfect Kid! I, too, love the newly-released, revised edition of Shut Up About Your Perfect Kid written by Gina Gallagher and Patricia Konjoian, sisters who are also both moms to children with special needs. The book is an incredibly funny yet compassionate and sincere look at raising imperfect children, based on the authors'...
