Square Peg is a combination of memoir, self-proclaimed manifesto, and education wake-up call. Todd Rose is able to articulate what I feel many parents of children with ADHD know, that our children learn differently. They are square pegs expected to fit in a round hole. This is something I have heard many times from parents in our CHADD meetings. I have often said that in school our children are expected to behave and act the same; yet in the "real world" as adults we are encouraged to learn about personality profiles, learning styles, and to appreciate differences.

Todd's relatable stories from his childhood offer insight to what many of our children experience on a daily basis. He reaffirms firsthand that the child's context and feedback loops will have an impact on how children perceive their ability to learn. Todd explains the scientific evidence of nature and nurture, feedback loops, and context in a way that is easy to understand. It is encouraging to learn that the parental instincts we have are followed up by scientific evidence.

I encourage readers to share Square Peg with teachers, friends, and family members. Reading about Todd's experiences as a child with ADHD makes him relatable to families that face similar struggles. The recognition he receives as an expert in his field lends to his credibility. Everyone who is touched by a child with ADHD in their lives should read this book.
