When I Was Young

Creative parenting during the summer can give kids an edge by the time they return to school.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of seven. Every summer, my mother, who also has ADHD, created what she called “Mommy’s Summer Camp,” where she taught me everything from organizing to etiquette. By the time school started again in the fall, I was confident and focused — and I was more knowledgable about life skills than most of my peers.
