Not all parents of children with attention deficit disorder (ADD ADHD) will relate to the descriptions of home life described in the essays in this book, but most have experienced the bewilderment and social isolation of raising a child who doesn’t fit in.

From a purely literary standpoint, The Elephant in the Playroom is a success. Brodey, an editor at Glamour, corralled professional writers, and no doubt edited heavily for style and content.

Ann: Thanks for your kind comments on my book! Just a few comments: I am now the editor in chief of FITNESS magazine (fitnessmagazine.com). The essays, while edited, were very true to writers originals. Many people who thought they could never possibly put their feelings on paper in an honest and artful way did so without much help at all! When you write what you know, it seems, the writing can be excellent and helpful and stand on its own. I am very proud of all the real parents in the book who worked so hard to bring insight to special needs. They should get credit for their spectacular writing. All best, Denise
