Problem-Solving Tips for Parents

A three-step plan for resolving difficulties with your child.

Filed Under: ADHD and Discipline, ADHD Expert Tips

As parents, we work hard to smooth our children’s paths. While occasional problems are inevitable, you and your child should find them easier to handle with this three-step plan.

1. Identify the specific problem.

2. Brainstorm possible solutions, and keep a written list.

3. Try one of your solutions. If it doesn’t work as you’d hoped, go back to your list and pick another approach to try.

For a young child who benefits from visual reinforcement, create a poster with words or pictures to remind her to work through each step. Be sure to hang it in a prominent place.
