4 Ways to Help Older Kids with Homework

Encourage your older children to assume greater responsibility for homework.

  • Check with teachers and friends to make sure that he accurately records assignments and due dates.
  • Develop work plans on a daily and weekly basis to include study times and deadlines for projects and papers.
  • Identify places that promote good study habits. Depending on how your child works, it could be a noisy coffee shop or a quiet library.
  • Name his own goals and rewards—hanging out with friends, time on the Internet, or video games.

4 ways to help older kids with homework
I think you have given excellent ideas, however I am wondering how I can do this, as my husband who has ADD, as does my son, will change what we prevously agree on ex. amount of time on the Internet without first letting me know, and will then ask me why I get upset instead of trusting him. The only reason I would get upset is because I know I couldn't change what we had previously ageed to without him being upset with me. Any ideas? Elizabeth
