When my primary-care physician wrote out my prescription for stimulant medication each month, she’d leave the space for her DEA number blank, so that the pharmacist would have to call her to get it. She said that this was to ensure that the prescription wasn’t being altered. In true ADD fashion, I never remembered to call in for a new prescription before I ran out. Because the verification process usually took three days, I went without meds. I solved the problem by finding a new doctor who writes her DEA number on the prescription.
