An Individual Sport Is Ideal

Some children thrive best when competing against themselves.

My son used to play soccer and basketball in middle school. He was not the best team player, so we steered him toward individual sports in high school.

Track and cross-country seem to suit him, since he can focus on beating his own time rather than on cooperating with others. They have taught him self-discipline and helped him a develop a good work ethic.

Just Diagnosed at 16 - Sports are a huge part of his life
My son is 16 and has played many sports over the years, starting from 5 yrs old. He tried Baseball and soccer when he was young and even football as a Freshman and Sophomore in High School, none of these sports worked for him. He started Wrestling, Track and Cross Country in Middle school and found that he loves these sports. He has become an amazing athlete in these three sports. Even before he was diagnosed with ADHD we found that he likes sports that he can be a part of a team, but he is in control of winning or losing.

    just diagnosed
my son is 10 and in 4th grade I hope that he will do an individual sport because he shys away from being in sports with others because he would miss directions and feel stupid. He is very intelligent he was afraid of looking stupid He knew he could overly react and get out of control. He rather work alone instead of not being able to follow directions or forcing others to do what he wants. I have been diagnosed too at 50 years old. what a hoot. after struggling and living through the chaos, shooting from the hip, winging it and learning to be very resourceful in a pinch I will finally be able to function like others? I don't know if I can handle that! lol believing it is never too late to get it. best janet thank you for posting
