The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to forbid public schools from denying admission to students who decline to take medication for AD/HD. The Child Medication Safety Act, sponsored by Representative John Kline (Republican of Minnesota), passed by a vote of 407-12. The bill has been referred to the Senate.
"Parents should never be forced to medicate their child, against their better judgment, to ensure their child will receive educational services," says Rep. Kline. Children in special-education programs are already protected by federal law from being required to take medication as a condition for schooling. Rep. Kline's bill would extend this protection to all students.
