Abbott Labs has pulled Cylert off the market, but denies it is in response to claims from a consumer group that the drug can cause liver failure.
Cylert has been withdrawn from the market by its manufacturer, Abbott Laboratories, although the generic version of this medication, pemoline, is still available.
Abbott Laboratories cited poor sales as the reason for its decision. The company denied that it was acting in response to a petition to the FDA from a consumer group to ban the drug because, the group claims, it can cause liver failure. The FDA said it was considering whether to withdraw pemoline as well.
