ADHD and Discipline
Psychologists often teach parents of children who exhibit oppositional or defiant behavior, a trait often found concurrent with AD/HD, to use behavior modification tools. Recently, University of North Carolina-Greensboro psychologists studied these strategies and concluded that they work. The researchers studied families with one or more defiant child who participated in a "parent training program." Typical strategies taught in such programs include positive attention for good behavior, ignoring inappropriate behavior, token reward systems, and time-outs. The results of this study were published in the Journal of Family Practice. |
